It takes one worker bee it's whole life (about 6 weeks in summertime) to make 1/12 a teaspoon of honey.

One queen bee can lay up to 1,500 eggs per day.

One worker bee visits up to 5,000 flowers in one day.

Our Beekeeper-in-Residence, Cindy Jordan, just completed a successful presentation at the Organic Grower's School on the campus of UNC-Asheville. Her talk addressed methods of keeping bees without treating the hives with chemicals--just the way we keep them here.

We are, in Spring 2011, partnering with the Center for Honeybee Research, to offer hands-on training in our bee yard for new beekeepers. (If you'd like to find out more about a hands-on training session in our bee yard, call us at 828-667-0120, or email info@jordanblackleyfarm.com)

Our live-in Beekeeping Intern position is filled through August, 2011. If you'd be interested in a year-round, intensive study of the life cycle of a bee colony, check back with us here in July, 2011.
